As much as I love makeup I also love to take care of my skin . Now we all know the basics of skin care ; cleanse , tone and moisturize, so I won’t emphasize those steps , instead I will show you what products I incorporate into my regimen . I will also include the extra steps I take to ensure that my skin is at its best 🙂
*I must mention that my favourite brands of skin care products to use : Simple, Neutrogena, Garnier, Cetaphil and Aveeno. I interchange between these brands depending on what I think my skin needs. I’ve found that the ingredients in these products work well with my skin type. This is my daily routine (morning and night)*
Step 1: Face Wash
This has been my staple face wash for some months now. I love it because it has salicylic acid in it which aids in controlling breakouts. This product does not strip the skin but is very effective in leaving your skin squeaky clean but without that dryness. I use this with a face buffer to ensure that I am thoroughly cleaning my skin ,especially when wearing makeup. I’ve found that adding the face buffer to my skin regimen has drastically improved the appearance of my skin because it works as an exfoliator as well. As with all tools for your skin , it is important to be gentle when using the face buffer.
To be honest I am not too concerned with what brand of toner I use. The reason I include a toner in my regimen is because I have a very oily T-zone. It is very hot and humid where I live so my skin gets very oily and sweaty at times . This can lead to breakouts so any good quality toner will help to remove traces of oil ,makeup or dirt that has not been removed by your cleanser.
Step 3: Moisturizer
My skin type requires a light moisturizer and I use Simple’s light hydrating moisturizer when I am not going outdoors. It works well with my combination skin but does not contain SPF . I therefore use Cetaphil’s moisturizing lotion with SPF 15 when going outdoors. My foundation also contains SPF so I double up on my sun protection . I live in a tropical climate so protecting my skin from the sun is of high importance. Aint nobody got time for skin cancer lol .
I exfoliate my skin every other day with either product . These products both help in minimizing the appearance of acne scars.
I interchange between these 3 face masks depending on the condition of my skin. If I am acne free I will use the Simple’s face mask. If I have breakouts ( usually on or around that time of the month) I will use the Queen Helene’s Mint Julep Masque and when I feel that my skin is too oily I will use the Australian Tea Tree Oil plus Vitamin E mask . This mask is my favourite as my skin is more on the oily side and ‘peel off ‘ masks are ideal for oily skin.
I love this night cream. I use this instead of a moisturizer at night in my routine .
Every Caribbean girl should have either fresh Aloe or Aloe Vera Gel in their beauty arsenal. Aloe Vera Gel is not only good for those days when you’ve spent too much time in the sun but is good for the skin on a regular basis. I use this product especially when I have a breakout as aloe is very good for calming the skin.
My acne fighting weapon of choice is the On the Spot Acne Treatment . Now this product will not get rid of your pimple in one night but after repeated use (couple of days) that bad boy will be gone . It is also important to put this on before your moisturizer as it would prevent your skin from getting too dry from the benzoyl peroxide.
Now what remains after those dreaded pimples ? Dreaded acne scars *insert horror music here *. Now if you hate acne scars as much as I do I highly suggest that you try Bio Oil. Bio-Oil has been such a great product for reducing the appearance of my acne scars. I also use this product on my body for stretch marks. It is a bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it .
That’s it for my regimen. Hope it was helpful 🙂
Until next time
